Fragile

this was one of my entry into "Turning Green".
it's a combination of the planets and the "sandblasted through" technique I've been working on for some years now. it's a blue planet (died and limed chestnut burl) surrounded by a very fragile atmosphere (chestnut, sandblasted through so that only a few points are still holding everything together).
8"*5 1/2".
I used Portland cement for the base.
I had much hope in it, but this piece was not selected (another of my entries was).

Very creative and well executed. Not sure what the rest of the chestnut burl looks like, but I think you picked an excellent orientation here--looks like islands visible through clouds.
