Side view of Basket Illusion. 9" x 2.75" Black Locust. Design inspired by Double Squash Blossom Basket made by Marian Cruz of the Tohono O'odham Nation.
This is the first time I've used black locust for an illusion piece. Only used hard maple in the past. Very happy with all aspects. The beads cut nicely, burning and inking were mostly uniform as well. The color and texture of the locust added a lot of "aging" to the piece.
