Stacked hemispheres

6” x 4”, flaming box elder burl and black walnut

Couldn’t resist keeping the natural edge of this flaming box elder burl intact, so I decided to turn a hemispherical hollow form with a massive void. It wouldn’t stand on its own due to obvious weight distribution issues, so I turned a smaller hemisphere from black walnut to use as a stand. The pieces are attached using 15mm rare earth magnets, so I can swap out the base if/when the urge strikes. Finished both pieces with T&T DO and buffed with brown tripoli.
This is a nice trip outside of the box Jaramiah! Congratulations for getting there on this outstanding piece!
