Curly Maple platter and matching bowls

A friend (logger) gave me a very large maple log years ago. 36" dia but the heartwood was gone - I mean gone! A squirrel could go through it. Trash in the eyes of most. Well, guess what? That tree was 100% curly. I've been using the lumber from that log for projects of all sorts. I wish I had been turning before I got it or there would have been more big bowls. I have most of it 8/4 thick so more plates and small bowls are coming.
