Walnut Hollow Form

Walnut hollow form 9” x 7-1/4” tall. This is the first time I’ve turned a full log section into a hollow form with two piths. This piece had several cracks in the pith when I cut the blank and I had originally wanted the cracks in the pith so I could try filling with turquoise. However as the piece dried the cracks closed up so I left as is.
David, looks nice! This is just what I’ve tried this week but with maple. Full log but with a bifurcated mess of piths. I’m glad you left it as is. I love the solid wood. Good job!

Awesome piece David. Really admire all of your work. Wondering how you mounting the original piece on the lathe. Did you mount it with the side grain facing out as you would a bowl? Still trying to find the best grain orientation when mounting blanks on the lathe. Again great looking piece.

Thank you! Yes I mounted with the side grain to headstock and tailstock.
