Yellow Cedar bowl 3 1/2" dia and 1 1/8" deep

A yellow cedar burl bowl from a piece of Vancouver Island wood
I grew up in NJ so I'm familiar with Jersey white cedar. I lived in WA state for years and so I'm familiar with western red cedar. But yellow cedar is something new for me. Where does that grow? I've never seen it. The bowl is stunning... like yellow marble. Is this cedar soft like the others?

I got the blank from a woodturner on Vancouver Island. From what he told me it does grow in places along the BC west coast. Where or how much is grown I am not sure. It was a soft wood, but not crumbly soft. If you do a google search you can find information about the species.
