Walnut HF that was pierced and pyro. This was a practice piece to try out my new carver. The vision I had did not transfer to my hand😁 but I learned a lot doing this. Should have used a lighter wood and added some branches to the limbs. 9-1/2” tall x 7” wide, satin lacquer finish.
Very impressive practice piece!!! Did you wait for the form to be really dry? What are you carving with?
Thank you and yes the piece was dry. I am using this carver…

Beautiful form, David .... and a great first effort using your new micromotor unit. I'm sure your "vision" will improve on future pierced pieces. A few observations, if you don't mind.:) 1) In real life "limbs" get smaller (in Ø) as they grow higher in the tree. 2) Your pierced holes are a little too large (my opinion). Another option is they could get smaller as you go higher in the tree, just like the branches ... visual weight. Also might give the illusion of sunlight coming through the leaves/branches. Just my 2¢. 😇
