Eggception BZB

The large egg is Black Cherry, the small egg is Zebrawood, and the pedestal is Beli. The small egg is mobile, yet permanently affixed within a hollow in the large egg. The egg and the pedestal articulate via a magnet. Usually I choose high contrast wood colors, but in this case I wanted species that were more complementary.

Thanks guys!

Tom, I found Beli to be very similar to Zebrawood. The main difference, to me, is that Zebrawood is a bit higher contrast between the light and dark sections. Beli sort of transitions from light to dark less abruptly. The dark grain lines also aren't quite as jagged as Zebrawood, if that makes sense. Their overall coloration is pretty similar though--with this piece, I used an oil finish for the small Zebrawood egg, and pastewax for the Beli pedestal. I should have used pastewax for the small egg, but got a bit ahead of myself and stuck the small egg into the cavity a bit sooner then planned.
