This piece is the result of a bit of serendipity. An OVWG member was giving away wood from the back of his truck and I scored this chunk of maple. One bonus was that what I took for saw marks turned out to be curled figure. After turning and hollowing I dyed it black, sanded until black only remained in the figure, then dyed the whole thing with 3 flavors of red. Finished with multiple coats of precatalyzed acrylic lacquer, level sanded and buffed. The second bonus is that it was awarded the Master class and People's Choice blue ribbons at the recent OVWG picnic.
