Spin Top Box

Black Cherry, Bocote, US penny, acrylic gouache, India ink. 4" h x 2.5" d. I donated this box to the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild for their biennial symposium, and am honored that it was purchased by one of their younger members (also a rising star in the turning world, and frequent contributor to this forum). The lid of this box is a spin top, and the spin bearing is a coin that I hammered into shape with a doming block. I carved the interior for some added interest.

Well this is marvelous, in numerous ways. Really striking for texture and shape, with the surprise element of not only a top, but a coin as the 'point'. The color choice, combination and contrast with the ink work very well. I'm having trouble finding the words to express my appreciation, Michael. Fantastic comes up short.
