Hints of blues and grays in the wood. Lots of figure. Seems like a piece of burl but not sure. Was very soft to turn.
Finished with friction polish.
It sure looks like Buckeye Burl (Aesculus californica). The swirling grain, color variation, and that little inclusion on the top of the lid all point to that.
