My swap piece for Tracey Lee. Thanks to John Beaver for showing his process on fin bowls and thanks to Tracey for sharing the Fission Zentangle. More descriptions are in the Holiday Swap thread.
I love this Russ, form and fin balance is just right. I love the embellishment too, just enough to add interest and a personal touch too. I’m still not sure I understand the process! 2 piece fins… but no joint?

There’s a barely visible (annoying) joint Steve. Using a laminated fin did little to mask it but perhaps a better wood selection might help. The grain in the lamination aligns and did provide some added strength to the glue up. It’s fairly thin…about .150”. It’s hard to see but the tops of the fins align with the rim and bevel towards the center of the bowl. The bottoms of the fins match until the go flat. This fins were a bit overpowering to the piece… a bit more than I liked. The detail below helped a little bit and the Fission design from Tracey’s last piece was the best option I could come up with…like you said, a personal touch.
