I titled this First Bloom since it is the first time I have tried to carve a flower. It is also the first time I tried texturing which was done on the band. I just jumped right in knowing there would be plenty of areas for improvement and learned a lot from this project.
I’m a bowl turner at heart, love turning hollow forms and now like going out of my comfort zone and try a little carving. Once I get comfortable with the carving I’ll add a little color.
This is Birch # 568, 8-1/4” x 9” at the widest point.

Thank you! @Ted Pelfrey is the reason I started dabbling with the carving. Ted has been very helpful giving me advice. So, basically this is Ted’s fault and he owes me money for the micro carver and dapple tool😁 since I was perfectly happy turning bowls and hollow forms until I saw his carved pieces!
