The lower part is made of alder, stained red; the different grain angles create different shades. The upper part is white birch.

This was an experiment: each segment ring rotates not half a step (like bricks), but only a quarter. And when turning and sanding, each segment has three zones: strictly along the grain in the middle, grinding with the grain, and grinding against the grain at the edges. These three zones absorb both color and oil differently, and that's why these color waves are formed.
