Morphed

One of my favorite processes is turning green wet Arbutus Burl and causing it to morph. Arbutus burl 3 footed bowl with natural edge, finished with tung oil. This is one of 12 bowls I recently completed following the same process. The wood is from the latest storm damaged harvest last fall. 16" X 10" X 8" high
How do you make the legs?
Beautiful.
Thanks Jim to make the legs I first wet sand the inside to 320 then reverse the bowl and use the vacuum chuck as a jam chuck and keep the tail stock in place. I carve out the tenon and inside are and leave a ring of wood for the legs. Use the indexing wheel to lay out 3 evenly spaced legs and hand draw the rough curves. Then I use a Arbortech grinder with 3 cup cutters on the head to hog out the bulk of the waste wood between the legs. Next is a pneumatic long neck grinder with a King Arthur disk and clean up the rough out. This is followed up by sanding to blend in the curve. I leave the tail stock dimple so I can remove the bowl to keep checking the bottom thickness as I want it to match the sides about 1/4" or less. Once the thickness is good I use the vacuum system to hold the bowl and remove the nub and then complete the wet sanding. I will try to post a few pics here.
