If you can't hide a crack then feature it!

Sometimes, unexpected moments lead to the most beautiful creations! The rim on this vase cracked when I accidentally ran into it with my hollowing tool. I finished turning it and set it aside to dry. It cracked all the down to the bottom as it dried. I really liked the crack. It looks artistic. Couldn't have done a better job if I tried.

I experimented with a faux painting technique on this vase. I applied gold acrylic paint using a sponge, over red, orange and yellow wood dye stain that allows the natural grain of the wood to show through.

Nice piece Carl, I like the accidental cracks. They give us the opportunity to rescue a piece. I’ve quit putting these pieces in the burn pile and give them a chance to show me what they have to offer.
