American Walnut Sphere

This piece is all about contrast and symmetry. I love the light sapwood of American walnut; it’s too often over looked in favor of the rich browns of the heartwood. Side by side, this sapwood/hardwood combo is one of my favorites. I was careful about grain orientation. Both side grain and end grain symmetry had to be balanced. Even the little bug hole in the sapwood cooperated, falling right along the centerline.
