Fox Box

Maple, pyrography, watercolors, India ink. 3"h x 2.5"d. This form is based on Neil Turner's urchin box design, but embellished in quite a different way. The box design is super cool, in that the two parts are connected via a stem that comes from the body and passes through a hole in the top of the lid. Clever and fun to turn! The pattern I used here is based on an illustration of a fox in a book that I read my kids (They All Saw A Cat by Brendan Wenzel). From the first time we read the book, I knew I wanted to make something to match the fox. Fun, and special for me that my kids had an indirect hand with the inspiration.
Some additional views of the box, plus the fox that inspired the pattern.

Thank you for sharing this very lovely piece with us. I am a Neil Turner fan since I took a class of his. We are also fans of Brenden Wenzel. My charming bride borrowed a couple more of his books from the library and they are waiting for our grandchildren to visit.
