Fox Box

Maple, pyrography, watercolors, India ink. 3"h x 2.5"d. This form is based on Neil Turner's urchin box design, but embellished in quite a different way. The box design is super cool, in that the two parts are connected via a stem that comes from the body and passes through a hole in the top of the lid. Clever and fun to turn! The pattern I used here is based on an illustration of a fox in a book that I read my kids (They All Saw A Cat by Brendan Wenzel). From the first time we read the book, I knew I wanted to make something to match the fox. Fun, and special for me that my kids had an indirect hand with the inspiration.
Love it ..... especially the colors! Great job disguising the joint - any difficulty aligning the pattern? Much more artistic than my versions. Neil Turner's work is very inspirational.
Your versions were the entire reason I wanted to make this style of box, so thank you! Seems like forever ago when I reached out to you, scratching my head trying to figure out how you turned them and got the spalt lines to align across the joint (shhhhhhhh). 😂

No difficulty aligning the pattern. I was super careful. My fit is pretty tight, but I also kept a piece of tape across the joint at all times. Especially when burning!
