In this month's American Woodturner magazine, there was a great feature on Richard Raffan. Throughout the feature, there are many beautiful works including his boxes, one of which caught my eye. So, I decided to try one of his signature boxes, the Raffan box. Turned from English Yew (Taxus baccata) this box has a lot more complex proportions, curves, and fine details. This lid is domed to a point, the side of the box is tapered from the lid to the base, and there is a foot as well. Turned, hollowed, and finished with buffed abrasive wax. Size is 2 1/2" tall x 1 3/4" diameter.
