Figured Desert Ironwood Cylinder Box

Back to the cylinder style, this box is turned from a really wild piece of figured Desert Ironwood. This wood is really hard, although it cuts really nice and sands very well. This box sports a domed lid, tapered sides, a raised foot, and chamfered edges on both top and bottom. Turned, hollowed, and finished with buffed wax then gloss lacquer. Size is 1 3/4" in diameter and 2" tall. This wood has some really nice grain patterns and streaks!
What a nice box! Desert Ironwood is a species I haven’t had the pleasure of turning yet, though it’s on my bucket list. This might be the most figured example I’ve seen. Great job, especially getting those crisp details at the small size.

Thanks guys! Yes this piece was very small, the figured woods really are small actually, I have multiple pieces that are around 1 3/4" square which is really small for a box. I turn those into capsule boxes mostly.....
