My second attempt at a thin wall staved vase (the first didn't end well :)). Inspired by Ulf Jansson's work. This is made of 8 staves of maple, finished with lacquer over milk paints. It's turned to just under 2mm wall thickness. The cutout follows the wood grain on 2 adjacent staves. All C&C welcome!
Great job, Steve! I went to two of Ulf’s presentations at the symposium. Love his work and his thought/design process. You did a nice job emulating his work. Randomly enough, I was working on something today, and used his recommendation of ultra dense foam to paint the rim. I’m assuming you did the same?

Actually I did the rim with a Pitt pen! Thanks for the reminder though, I have forgotten about as much as I learned at the symposium, should've taken some more notes!

Very nice! I watched Ulf's demo on the virtual symposium. It takes a really fine touch to achieve that wall thickness.
