Fluted oak wide mouth vase

Fluted oak wide mouth vase

Red oak, hard as a stone.
Another nice piece JJ, it looks like the top is undercut, is that correct? How do you flute your pieces? A special router set-up?

A
Yes, I flute them with a router in a special fixture with a complicated setup. I made an index wheel that fits on the outboard side so that I would have full clearance on the inboard side to move the router around. Yes, this piece is undercut and fully sanded by about an inch. Since it such a hard wood, the finish is very smooth.
