Half-Twist Segments

Half-Twist Segments

This 6-inch diameter, 5-inch tall bowl was turned off-center on the upper half to create a twisted surface. The bottom half was turned on-center. Base and rim are mahogany and the segments are various hardwoods. Segment patterns were arranged to complement the twisted design. I really enjoy the geometric interactions that occur when off-center surfaces meet cylindrical surfaces. Finish is Watco oil buffed on the Beall system.
Thanks Roger! Here's a link to a YouTube video I created on turning a half-twist bowl. This will give you some insights into the additional geometries you can create with multi-axis turning. Enjoy!
