I have made a few box over the years from Masur Birch, (Betula pendula var. carelica) but none of them have come close to having had this level of figure! Turned in the round bottom style, this box is the pinnacle of what Masur Birch can offer. This piece came from oversees, as it is rare to find this wood here in the states. It cuts and sands beautifully and has a nice fragrant scent when turned. Style features on this box include: a double stepped domed lid, very curved sides, and chamfered edges. Size is 2" diameter x 1 7/8" tall. Take a look back through the gallery at all of the Masur Birch boxes I have turned over the years, and I bet you won't find a piece this stunning!
