Lunar Turbulence

This segmented project depicts a turbulent force engulfing a distant moon. I made the walnut ribbon from 6 bottomless bowls, which I deconstructed and then reassembled into the 8-lobe shape. I sized the ribbon to encompass a 6-inch segmented maple sphere. I power carved and painted the sphere to resemble lunar craters. The stand is segmented, lightly textured, and painted black. Overall height: 19". Thanks to Malcolm Tibbetts for introducing me to segmented ribbons and to Paul Bartlett for inspiring me to learn Onshape 3D solid modeling software that made this design possible!
