Mike, Ithink I have seen this wood before somewhere.
A true calabash form (there are several varieties) is fashioned after the calabash gourd. There are no rims or other types of adornment. The form is rounded to about 2/3rds of the way up and then it tapers in and then near the very top is straight.
I will see if I have a couple of photos of the calabash and the umeke (tall form of calabash and will post rhem in the gallery for examples for your next calabash.
