Practising for a club demo this month. The wood used is a small northern red oak cut down on private property Friday the 14th. The tree was live and healthy even after a dead jackpine was blown over onto it, so it was an ideal material for a natural bark edge umbrella. The process is to do the inside first including a 5/16" hole in the center. The wrench shown is a 7/16" so at that point the piece is held on by a 1/6" wall tube. The final process is to place a 1/4" dowel in the spinning piece and carefully cut it off.
The top piece will have a 5/16" dowel and the finial underneath will have a 5/16" hole so the umbrella is held between the two pieces.
