Marco Polo

I ran across a long forgotten stash of turning scraps the other day and found a beautiful waxed block of highly figured root burl wood. I have no idea of the identity of the wood. My plan was to create a piece that would take advantage of this beautiful root burl without hiding it with any surface enhancement. The burl was finished in it’s natural color. The beaded base, lid and Torii finial mount were finished in a semi-gloss black to contrast with the natural burl color and not conflict with it. The piece is 4 3/4” tall and 5 3/4” wide.
