Mesquite Beaded Lamp
David Bartell

Mesquite Beaded Lamp

This is a fairly large lamp turned from Mesquite with 5 turned components - the body, base, top plate, stem and finial. Each component has beading illusion added. The body is hollowed and then closed off for the lamp rod with the top plate and base. Total lamp height is 25". Height to the top of the body is 13". Top of the lamp finial has a turquoise stone inserted. Finished with waterlox.
Additional view without shade.

Great design and execution! Did you have that shade in mind before you designed it? They work great together.
Actually yes, the shade came first. I searched for a shade that would be complimentary to a southwestern theme. The following research determined lamp body proportions to a shade of that size and there were plenty of examples. It was a fun project.

Awesome looking with lots of great details!. The shade complements the lamp very well. Tell use about the darts near the top.

By darts do you mean the cracks around the top of the body? If so, they were in the piece before turning and nor the result of drying after. Mesquite always has something going on and these seems consistent with that observation. Thanks for the complements.

Having not turned Mesquite before, I thought they were intentional decorations. They certainly don't detract for the lamp, but add to the lamp.
