Mesquite Vase with Polymer Clay Millefiori

I made a Corian vase with polymer clay millefiori four years ago. I wanted to put the millefiori on wood but that presented a big challenge because the polymer clay has to be cured at 275°F (135°C) at which point even baked dry wood would still give off vapor which causes bubbles in the clay. I solved the problem by putting the clay on a Corian ring and then gluing the ring to the wood. Before the ring was glued to wood I cast it in epoxy and turned it round because it is impossible to make the millefiori smooth. Mesquite was used because it is the most dimensionally stable wood available.
Quite a challenge to make. Worth it, it’s really nice. 😊
