"Myrtle Nuts"

A spalted Myrtlewood footed platter. The rim has been decorated Banksia pods. I got these as filler in a Flat Rate trade I made with a fellow turner. A bit too small to be turned I sliced them on the bandsaw and they made a wonderful nut-like pattern for the rim. Karen suggested the swirling silver epoxy fill color as Myrtle tends to have somewhat of a cool gray tone. The color also plays well with mahogany color of the pod slices. Finished with gloss lacquer that has been sanded back then buffed.
