On seeing Mark Baker at Harrogate

This is an attempt at using silver gilt cream on a piece. I have never tried this before and so was a little apprehensive as to the result. Its a piece of oak about 100mm x 120mm The outside and rim is treated with ebonising lacquer and the cream the inside left natural.

I went down to Harrogate in north Yorkshire last week and watched Mark Baker demonstrate this technique. With some help from him and a little luck I was able to create this piece (thanks Mark)

very nice, how is the outside stripe effect done with the ebonising lacquer, i understand the different grains in oak

Very nice bowl shape (which I will want to copy). The colors of the ebonizing lacquer (please tell us more) and the gilt cream complement the inside wood color wonderfully.
