Red Oak Puahala

A couple of months ago my brother and I drove around Amish country about 40 minutes from here. We saw a couple of boys milling oak logs. We bought some cutoffs for .50 each. I'm not a fan of red oak, but I couldn't turn that down.

I'm not sure I quite achieved a puahala, but it's close. This piece is 3.5" x 3" and finished with Myland's high build friction polish. It was terribly punky, and I broke 3 tenons off. I ultimately wrestled it into submission with the help of shellac and CA.
