Sandblasted Saucer

This is a piece I had started in March as an experiment with sandblasting. After completely destroying one piece, this saucer turned out well enough that I had to finish it.

The cup, ring, base and points are all Padauk. The saucer is white oak, sandblasted, and finished with India ink and graphite. Wire is threaded through the ring and inserted into holes in the base. Notches in the points are grasping the edges of the saucer and suspending the cup in line with the base. The opposing points of the cup and base emulate the tension that you see in time lapse photos of rain hitting the surface of water.
