I like the look of the several segmented pieces you posted Jim. I just hope the rims do not separate from the bases after several seasons since it is difficult to get the proper grain orientation lined up on regular vs segmented pieces.
I woried about that myself, but some of these pieces are three years old and they have held up pretty well. Humidity change is a potential problem. We try to keep the humidity in the house above 40% during the winter. Grain orientation does matter, and I've taken that into consideration on more recent work.
