Tribute to Elizabeth

Inspiration I have had for some recent works comes from a renowned Native American basket weaver named Elizabeth Hickox. She was born in the 1870's and was a member of the Wiyot tribe of Northern California. She developed a unique and beautiful style of lidded basketry and may have been one of the first to sell her pieces to collectors rather than create them primarily as functional.

This is a Mesquite piece embellished with basket illusion technique, ink and acrylic paint. 8" tall and 8" wide. Finished with acrylic spray and Waterlox.
