Walnut from Ike

This is the first finished piece that I have done from my own pile of 'Hurricane Ike' wood. Though I do not live in Houston, I do go to most of the Houston club (Guld Coast Woodturners) meetings. I got a fairly large chunk of walnut during the meeting right after hurricane Ike. Most of it has been cut into pieces my mini lathe can handle and waxed but this piece was starting to crack so I cut away the crack and turned a bowl. The grain is really beautiful, the picture doesn't do it justice.
This was also my first try at rough turning a bowl, letting it dry some more and then finish turning it.
It is 5" in dia, and finshed with Waterlox and Beall buffing.
