I can’t get additional photos to post in the comments section….?

Very curious, yesterday Jim Hills just did this with one of his posts. My suspicion is that it is related to how soon after the original post you upload the additional photos.

This has been discussed several times before. It's this website - hard to understand why it can be done in the Discussion forums but not in the Gallery. You have to use a third party photo sharing website. Personally, I refuse to do that! That is why you will see a lot of double posts to see a different view of the same piece.
