Winged Lidded Box

  • Media owner khertzog
  • Date added
A winged, lidded box done in quilted Maple. The box is about 13 inches across the wings. Finish is shellac.
Angelo, the bottom reverse chucking is done on a jamb chuck using the straight walled area for the lid to set into. The chuck is cut with a bit of a mate to the top contour as well. It helps support the piece as well as giving more area of contact to help provide friction for driving. The tail stock is used as a safety measure until it has to be removed. By then, all of the heavy lifting has been done and only the very center of the bottom curve needs to be finished up.
