    Cross-grain Maple box with a hand-chased 8tpi thread. Approx 75mm (3”) diameter. Finished with Hardwax oil and lightly buffed.

    What is the best choice for tpi for hand chasing threads?

    One of the things I want to learn this year is how to hand chase threads. I have watched Batty's and Sorby's videos on the subject. Sorby offers tool sets in 20, 16, and 10 tpi. What would each tpi be used for? Which would be the best to start with?

    Best woods for thread chasing.

    I've been dabbling in thread chasing lately, but have had trouble finding wood that really takes threads. Most of the literature (mainly British, I think) says that box wood (which I think it probably some sort of Buxus) which is a very rare introduced species in the US found in a few counties...
