A quick platter

Very cool. I’ve seen a video similar to this, but with a glass bottle. I think the idea of breaking the plate (or bottle) is that the glass/ceramic is breakable, but the wood is not. At least not in the same way.
 
Interesting video. We get caught up in so many aspects of wood turning that we forget that this fellow shows us how it was done in the distant past.
