AAW on Facebook

I have to say I don't understand what Facebook is. When I want to talk to someone I either call them or email them. What benefits would Facebook bring to AAW?

Some people love Facebook, but personally, I don't get it. Also, there are some concerns with Facebook - porn and general teenage sillyness, security, spamers and scammers lifting contact info.
 
It allows communication regardless of location. I have lots of friends on the west coast that time change would make it tough for impromtu calls. However, there is a marketing aspect of Facebook that can get a lot of people linked in.

People could easily share pics of their work with the Facebook friends, who can in turn comment and share. If you become a fan of a Facebook biz or interest group, you automatically receive all their postings. What this means basically is that all of it comes to you, you don't have to go to a number of sites to glean info and timely info can be pushed rather than waiting for a person to go to a website and find it. It's more short term, temporary stuff, where a website is a longer term presence.

A group of us formed a small turning entity that shows our work at a local artist co-op. We marekt ourselves and let folks know of our work through Facebook and link intot he co-ops facebook page. The friends grow pretty fast.

I'm on Facebook, but I firmly believe it's just another fadish thing like Twitter and a whole lot of other feelie-groupie-touchie-whatever sites that seem to be proliferating on the internet these days. Only part of Facebook I like is

That would be a good idea, but there is a large number of people who have nothing in their profiles. This would be a curtail to using this forum as a facebook.

5 of the 6 I looked at did not have any profile info at all.

p.s. - I also think we should use real names here and not screen names, (or at least a real name in the tag line) but that is another story
 
I agree with ED it would bring in more junk something else the moderators would have to worry about if they can. just my thoughts.

I still think that profiles should be filled in and names used though

Thanks for that pointer. I use my real name on the forums I subscribe to, and still see many places that do not require it. It is good to see this forum make it mandatory for all new people.

I've been on Facebook for almost a year, and it's starting to be a bit too much for me. It's great for family and close friends, but I have a few "friends" I barely know and a lot of my contacts post nothing but those silly games and such. I like to hear what you, yourself in "Real Life" is doing, not who you killed in Vampire Wars, or which 60's cartoon character you are.

Of course I would join an AAW Facebook group if there was one. There is, in fact, a group started by Tib Shaw called "Gallery of Wood Art" representing the AAW's Landmark Center in St. Paul, MN., and membership is open to all.
