Cant remember where I got it but it has a grain and color resembling maple, is "semi-hard" and it smells like it is impregnated with wax. It turns beautifully (almost like cutting butter) and actually leaves what appears to be waxy residue on the edges of the cutting tools - this "wax" also loads up the sandpaper significantly.
I have enough of it to make some kitchen utensils but want to determine the toxicity level before committing to that use.
Using a length of wire to burn a grove into this wood produces a bubbling waxy material which boils out of the grain and onto the surface of the wood.
