Attach fake faceplate

I guess it depends what you're trying to do. A 2" circle is not a large contact area, so you can't core a set of nested bowls or hollow a tall form, but it should be fine for a smaller project. Superglue is very solid/rigid, but two-sided tape can vary in grip. (depending on brand, type, and surfaces)
 
@Darryl Fective covered it the decision depends on what you are making.
when I turn ornament discs or medallion discs I use double sided tape because I’m holding a sanded surface.
These I often do in batches and can mount 4-5 ornament discs on the same tape
My tape residue is removed with naphtha. Some tapes use alcohol for residue removal?
