My club was looking at this too, but one of the reps at Craft Supplies talked me out of it when I called.

The main drawback was that the speaker had to be attached to the person using it. Most likely around the waste. That would mean that if the person were standing behind a lathe, then the machine would be between the speaker and the audience. The somewhat short cord on the unit wouldn't allow setting the speaker on the lathe because it would fall off if the demonstrator moved around at all.

They still make the old cop earmikes don't they? I'd give one a try. Those throat mikes they used in the airplane business are another source, as long as you remember to go "aaaaah" before you transmit anything worthwhile.
 
Our club purchased one in 2009, it was around $1000.00 with Shipping and everything. If your interested PM our chapter president Rick Coffman he has the details. I think everyone, (instert bunch of old codgers) are happy with the sound. Our demonstrators have been happy with the wireless headset and sending unit.
