Bill Luce passed peacefully on May 29, 6 years after a motorcycle accident resulted in traumatic brain injuries.
Bill was passionate about turning and his search for perfection of form inspired many. RIP

I just noticed that Monica Luce posted on CaringBridge that her husband, Bill, passed on May 29, 2022. Long-time woodturners will remember Bill Luce as a well-known and highly regarded professional woodturner.

When Bill "found" the perfect form, us turners in Hawaii were happy to see that it was the calabash that he considered the purest form. I use one of his "calabashes" in my list of resources for my Hawaiian calabash demo. I met Bill at the Portland Symposium, and told him about it, his face lighted up with a big smile. A great loss for the Woodturning world. RIP Bill.

This is sad for all concerned especially for his family. When talent ,experience, knowledge like this passes we lose a whole library.

This makes me so, so sad. It was bad enough that he had the accident and was unable to continue turning. The most timeless, elegant, simple, impossibly perfect work. What an inspiration.
