Black Dye

I have tried black India ink, being an ex-Marine I have USMC black and Dick Blick Black Cat Waterproof India Ink. The plain black india ink didn't work as well as the USMC and the Black Cat.

Another ditto on the Fiebing's USMC Black leather dye. Watch out, though. They also have a regular black dye in addition to the USMC. I've only used the USMC which is alcohol based.

Our club just had a demo on ebonizing. The member presenting brought along some Tannic Acid he got from a wine making supplier, and with it, he could make any of the sample woods black. Even box elder. I just use a tea bag, but it seemed like the tannic acid mixed into solution and painted on worked better.
