Yes. If you put on multiple coats t will go almost white. I like to leave the heart wood the same and just bleach the sap wood. That works really well with some pieces.

I often bleach just the sap wood.
on hollow forms or natural edge bowls.
I like the color of cherry and the contrast of the sap ring.
