I copied Robin Dustin design for stacking bowls. I made a change in how they are cut out by only gluing 7” wide by 14” long strips together. I then used the band saw to cut half rings following his plan. After cutting, glued the half rings together and stacked per the article in Vol 35 no 6 issue of American Woodtruner.

Thanks! And sure thing. I think they look excellent. I don't have a table saw yet, otherwise I'd give this a try myself. I love stuff like this.

Jon,
The band saw, or jig saw as Robin used is more important than a table saw. If you have any means to join 1 or more boards together and either saw mentioned, you can make these. -- assume you have a lathe of course.:).

I always figured that ripping was better done on a table saw (where you have a good fence and support and all that)? I also have aspirations of getting into fully segmented turning in the future, so there would be both ripping and cross-cutting with a sled to get all the angles right on each segment... I've only ever seen that kind of thing done on a table saw, so I kind of wrote off a band saw (at least until some time down the road).
